MTRC submits reports over Oct incidents

Lam Tin MTR Station experienced incidents that disrupted train services for two consecutive days in mid-October. MTR submitted a preliminary investigation report to the Legislative Council.

According to MTR's preliminary probes, the first incident occurred on October 13th when the rail equipment in the Lam Tin Station tunnel caught fire. The flame came after insulating rubber near the switch failed to work which led to short-circuiting.

The MTRC has completed inspections of all similar types of insulating components and found no abnormalities.

Meanwhile, the electrical room fire the following day occurred because the portable grounding switch inside the room remained closed after the incident on the previous day, causing components to overheat and smoke.

The rail operator is inspecting all stations with similar switches and will focus on optimising the arrangement.
