Lam Tin MTR Station disrupted for 2 days -- both during rush hours

Lam Tin MTR Station saw service disruptions for two consecutive days -- both during rush hours. This morning, smoke was emitted from equipment on the platform with Kwun Tong Line train services disrupted for about an hour.

Rail operator MTRC apologised to affected passengers. The incident occurred at nearly 9 am when the police received a report from an MTR staff member stating that the platform had caught fire.

The MTR arranged free shuttle buses to transport passengers between Kwun Tong and Yau Tong, stopping at Lam Tin Station along the way.

About an hour later, train services returned to normal at 10 am. MTRC says smoke came from the platform's electrical and mechanical equipment room in the morning, and it is preliminarily believed to have been caused by overheating cables.

Secretary for Transport and Logistics Mable Chan says the MTR has been asked to submit a report within a month.
