Shenzhen authorities say 79,500 passenger trips and 8,000 vehicles passed through the redeveloped Huanggang Port building on its first day of operations.

Day 2 of operations, both self-service channels and manual counters saw queues at the crossing. But the taxi stand on the port's Hong Kong side was rather deserted in the morning.

TVB News observed the drop-off area for 20 minutes. Among the 10 cabbies interviewed, nearly all chose to leave the port without picking up new customers.

A driver said the requirement to get a ticket to wait for passengers is too complicated. And mistakenly entering the taxi fleet zone could mean an extra 20-minute drive to return to the port's taxi boarding area.

Speaking on a radio programme today, Secretary for Transport and Logistics Mable Chan said the port's current traffic arrangements are aligned with standard practices. On whether dedicated pick-up and drop-off spaces will be set up for future ride-hailing services, she said relevant arrangements will be announced in due course.
