Officials continue tracking stray dogs after Yuen Long dog attack

Following a suspected fatal dog attack in Yuen Long, Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department officers and the police continue to be on the lookout for unattended dogs in the area.

Five canines have been rounded up so far, and authorities are contacting the owners of three dogs with microchips.

At a LegCo committee meeting, lawmakers discussed stray dog management.

Environment and Ecology Secretary Tse Chin-wan says the safety of humans is the top priority.

He says authorities are reviewing laws to improve stray dog control and step up enforcement against feeding.

As dog owners must take full responsibility,the government plans to increase penalties for abandonment and will report back to the committee by the end of the year.

Meanwhile, Tse describes the recent trial of dog-friendly restaurants as successful. The scheme will be reviewed later this year before rolling out the next phase.
