The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department launches its latest round of operations aimed at catching unaccompanied dogs.

Authorities say they will prioritise high-risk areas such as those where canine attacks have occurred in the past and popular gathering spots for stray dogs.

The AFCD stresses it will check whether captured dogs have received chip implants and have relevant licenses before contacting their owners.

The department notes they may seek prosecution if they acquire sufficient evidence.

If an animal's owner could not be found, the AFCD will arrange for veterinarians to determine the health and temperament of the captured canine.

The animal will then be transferred to an animal welfare organisation, where it will undergo a neutering surgery and be given up for adoption.

The department emphasises captured dogs without owners will not be released to the public.
