Police have arrested three people from the company responsible for the building’s renovation works on suspicion of manslaughter, including two directors and one engineering consultant. It is understood that all three are from Prestige Construction and Engineering Co. Ltd.
One of the suspects, with a black hood over his head, was escorted by officers out of their office in San Po Kong shortly before 9 a.m.
Police seized computers, documents, and other evidence.
Earlier, officers also searched the office of Prestige Engineering and Construction for evidence.
Preliminary police investigation found that some of the exterior wall materials at Wang Fuk Court are suspected of failing to meet fire safety standards. There was also Styrofoam outside some lift lobby windows. Police believe these factors caused the fire to spread rapidly. Three people were arrested on suspicion of manslaughter.
