Venezuela frees 17 political prisoners as US sends medical supplies

Venezuela has freed 17 political prisoners, the human rights committee of opposition movement Vente Venezuela said in a post on X.
The prisoners who were freed Saturday included 10 men and seven women. Their relatives had been camping outside the detention centre for a month waiting for their release.
This as a shipment of medicines and medical supplies from the United States arrived in Venezuela Friday, reflecting the new spirit of cooperation between the two countries following the U.S capture of former President Nicolas Maduro.
The shipment contained six metric tons of medications received at the airport in Caracas by the U.S. top diplomat in the country Laura Dogu.
