The Hong Kong Polytechnic University said artificial intelligence can elevate the work efficiency and accuracy of legal professionals. The university has developed the city's first cross-border AI legal service system. Artificial intelligence's application in the legal sector has become a much discussed topic in society. Speaking to the media on Friday, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University presented the city's first developed cross-border AI legal service system, WiseLaw. Aiming to enhance the work efficiency and accuracy of legal professionals, the system incorporates four features, including a contract review function, which reduces the review time from four hours to five minutes. LU HAITIAN, HK Sustaintech Foundation Professor, PolyU said, "We already have over 1,500 legal professionals as our professional users on our platform. We have yet to decide the coverage of the local law firms, but we do have the plan to offer CPD (Continuing Professional Development) course to train more Hong Kong legal professionals how to use AI, or how to build his or her own AI. Our target is to quickly enhance our coverage within this year." Lu stressed that the purpose of the system is not to replace lawyers but to use technology to minimise their time spending on document work. Lu added that law students of PolyU and City University of Hong Kong have already been using the system to enhance their learning.
