The Housing Department's Express Flat Allocation Scheme has begun with the first batch of eligible applicants now selecting public rental housing units.

This round offers 1,277 flats for households with two or more members, some of which come with rent concessions.

Some units carry a history of incidents such as murder, suicide, accidental or natural deaths or debt-related disputes.

One applicant says he is happy about the fast-track option as he's been waiting for a unit for years. He says natural death cases don't bother him.

Another applicant says he doesn't mind noise-related nuisance but he hopes they can get a larger unit to accommodate his wheelchair-bound father.

Singleton applicants are expected to start flat selection in December.

Tenants who choose units vacant for over 12 months can enjoy a half-rent concession.
