China has unveiled the arrangements for the upcoming grand military parade marking the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. The parade will be held in Beijing on September 3rd, featuring domestically made combat equipment.

In 2015, the victory day military parade observing the 70th anniversary of the formal surrender of Japanese forces in September 1945 was staged in the heart of Beijing.

Now a decade on, the 70 minute-long military parade this year will consist of two parts: a military review and march-past. It will include 45 formations or "echelons" of contingents.

They include airborne flag-guarding echelons, foot formations, battle flag formations and armament columns.

During the parade, troops will line up along Chang'an Avenue to be inspected by President Xi Jinping, who is also chairman of the Central Military Commission. And the march-past in Tiananmen Square will involve nearly 10,000 people, including veterans of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.

Apart from tanks, domestically made aircraft including fighter jets and bombers, as well as high-tech armaments such as precision-strike missiles capable of travelling at five times the speed of sound, will be featured at the parade. Some will be first-time displays.

Also for the first time, the parade training grounds on the outskirts of Beijing are open to the press.

Marches, fully synchronised.

From honour guards and peacekeeping units which undertook United Nations missions in South Sudan to the militia formations which will appear for the first time at the victory day parade.

Whether men or women, participants must stand between 1.63 and 1.85 metres tall to ensure a seamless uniform line.

The PLA says the preparation time this year is shorter than in the past, so they have used the Beidou navigation satellite system and other simulation tech to assist in training.

Authorities say this marks the first military parade to comprehensively promote Chinese-style modernization and the first time that the new layout of the Chinese military structure will be displayed.
