Authorities say they received 20 reports of landslides across the city during the rainstorms yesterday, and warned of the risk of further landslides over the next few days.
This as the government says regular traffic can be resumed on landslide-hit Bride's Pool Road by Friday at the earliest.
Battered by heavy rain and landslides throughout the day, the observatory recorded more than 368 millimetres of rainfall in Hong Kong on Tuesday.
The figure marks the city's rainiest day in August since 1884.
The Geotechnical Engineering Office says it received 20 reports of landslides throughout the day, concentrated around rainier areas on Hong Kong Island, Sai Kung, Tai Po and Kwai Chung.
This as Raymond Cheung, head of the Geotechnical Engineering Office, emphasised the reported landslides were not serious in nature, adding that they primarily happened on remote roads or far from pedestrian areas.
The office, which utilised AI to predict the risk of landslides, said it has already seen initial success with the use of the technology.
But he urged residents to raise their awareness of potential landslides in the next few days, during which authorities are expecting more landslide reports.
On Bride's Pool Road, one of the areas more heavily hit by landslides during the recent rainstorms, parts of the road had to be cordoned off for further repairs.
Speaking about the condition of the road, the Highways Department said the slope supporting the structure of the road has collapsed, adding another layer of difficulty to the repair work.
The department expects one traffic lane will be open to vehicles as soon as Friday, and is striving to return the road to full operational capacity by next week.
Meanwhile, authorities expect more than a dozen potholes that developed after the heavy rain to be fixed by Thursday.
