An unusually strong summer storm has hit Scotland, disrupting popular festivals and essential travel.
The UK Meteorological Office issued an "amber" wind warning in Scotland for Storm Floris, signalling potential risk to lives and property, especially in coastal areas.
With wind gusts of up to 145 kilometres per hour, trees were toppled and power lines felled, resulting in 22,000 properties losing power in the middle of the storm.
Train and ferry services were cancelled across much of Scotland.
Summer is the busiest time of the year for tourism, with hundreds of thousands of tourists flocking to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and other outdoor festivities.
Fringe Festival organisers said some shows set to take place in temporary structures had to be cancelled due to safety issues.
