Chief Secretary for Administration Eric Chan posted on social media, saying that the government is on high alert amid the torrential rain, swiftly coordinating the full deployment of various departments.

He said employers should be as sensible as possible, and prioritise the safety of employees and make flexible work arrangements.

Chan said he visited the Emergency Monitoring and Support Centre, where he received updates from various departments on the latest situation and response arrangements.

He stated that the government has always had a comprehensive response mechanism in place to deal with severe weather.

The Drainage Services Department's 180 emergency response teams are clearing floodwaters in various districts, inspecting and clearing 240 flooding blackspots, and deploying water-sucking robots to assist.

The Home Affairs Department has opened temporary shelters in various districts. He said that fortunately, there were only sporadic reports of injuries during this rainstorm.

He urged the public to remain vigilant, saying that after the rainstorm, market and road conditions will vary from district to district.
