Rallies were held across Brazil in support of embattled former President Jair Bolsonaro as he faces charges of launching a coup.

Banned from attending, Bolsonaro's son spoke to the thousands who attended in Rio de Janeiro as the crowds called for the charges to be dropped.

Protesters waved American flags to acknowledge Donald Trump's support.

Trump placed high tariffs on Brazilian exports, sanctioned a top legal official and called for the trial to stop.

Sun, sea, sand and protests.

On Copacabana, a mostly carnival atmosphere.

Songs of support for former President Jair Bolsonaro.

The populist leader is facing charges of trying to overturn the 2023 election which he lost to Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

America flags alongside Brazilian ones as Donald Trump lends his support.

Trump imposed 50 percent tariffs on most Brazilian goods calling the case against Bolsonaro a "witch hunt".

The crowds held signs venting anger toward Supreme Federal Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes.

The U.S administration has put sanctions on Moraes who is overseeing the case against Bolsonaro.

Moraes is facing financial penalties under the America's Magnitsky Act which allows the U.S to punish foreigners they consider corrupt.

Bolsonaro, put under house arrest by Moraes, was unable to attend.

Under night and weekend curfews, Bolsonaro had to let his son do the talking.

Flavio addressed the crowd from behind a cardboard cut out of his father who he later put on the phone.

Calling Bolsonaro's opponents "abusers of the country,"Flavio says "this show today is about saving Brazil and saving yourselves."

The audience applauded as rallies of support for Bolsonaro took place in several other Brazilian cities.

This man explained why he had to come: "Good people are imprisoned for political demonstration. We have the right to protest," Luis Paulo Machado says. "Judge them correctly. We can't accept this. Alexandre de Moraes must go."

These rallies followed others late last week in support of Lula and against Trump's steep tariffs.

Lula is negotiating on levies but says the U.S.'s sanctioning of the justice system is unacceptable interference.
