Despite the fine weather today, the Hong Kong Observatory's AI forecast model predicts that a broad area of low pressure over the seas east of the Philippines is gradually developing into a tropical cyclone, which is expected to come closest to Hong Kong later this week.
Along the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront, many people were seen shielding themselves from the sun with umbrellas.
The Observatory says an upper level anticyclone is covering the northern part of the South China Sea, bringing persistently hot weather to Hong Kong over the next two to three days.
Temperatures around the urban areas reached 32 degrees Celsius with the mercury in Sheung Shui hitting 33.7 degrees at its highest.
According to the observatory's AI-powered forecasting system, the developing tropical cyclone is expected to come closest to Hong Kong between Saturday night and early Sunday morning. Wind speed could reach level 7.
