Low pressure area near the Philippines could evolve into tropical cyclone

Hong Kong has been experiencing squally showers and thunderstorms since last night, with the Amber Rainstorm Warning Signal issued by the observatory earlier in the day.
Weather authorities say a low pressure area to the east of the Philippines could develop into a tropical cyclone later this week.
The observatory says the potential tropical cyclone may move northwards towards areas near the east of Taiwan, while some simulation programmes indicate the cyclone could enter the South China Sea and reach the Guangdong coastline. Meanwhile, weather authorities predict that an anticyclone will cover parts of Southeast China in the next one to two days, bringing sweltering weather conditions to the area.
