A 51-year-old woman was hospitalised after experiencing dizziness and low blood pressure approximately 30 minutes after consuming honey brought from Nepal.
The Centre for Health Protection suspects the patient suffered from mad honey poisoning caused by grayanotoxins, which are neurotoxins found in some plants like rhododendrons.
The public is advised to purchase honey from reliable sources and be cautious with honey from regions with relevant cases before, including India, Nepal and the Black Sea region in Turkey.
