Hundreds were arrested as french police were deployed near the Parc des Princes stadium in Paris to control celebrating supporters of Paris Saint-Germain. Officers detained nearly 300 people for possession of fireworks and causing disorder.

Clashes broke out as more than 5,000 police personnel were deployed across the french capital. PSG won the UEFA Champions League Final against Inter Milan 5-0 in a match played in Munich, Germany.

It was the Qatari-backed team's first triumph in Europe's top club competition. Fifty thousand had watched the game on big screens near the team's home ground. Fans had been letting off fireworks even before kick-off and as PSG took the lead things got more rowdy. Police came face to face with supporters who were throwing bottles into the air.

The majority of fans celebrated in a happy mood with the singing of football chants and dancing.
