Ocean Park Tower malfunctions with 17 stranded mid-air for 2 hours

Ocean Park has confirmed that its Ocean Park Tower ride malfunctioned on Saturday night. The incident left 17 passengers stranded for about two hours before being brought safely back to the ground.
The incident occurred at around 8 p.m. on Saturday when a signal failure was detected during the ride's operation, triggering a safety system that stops the ride.
17 stranded passengers were escorted away from the tower via a central emergency staircase.
The park said after inspection from the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department, the ride reopened on Sunday afternoon.
Ocean Park Tower, which began operations in 1992, has experienced similar incidents in 2011, 2014 and 2019, during which passengers were also temporarily stranded.
