As Western countries keep up their sanctions against Russia, Chinese products are gaining a growing market share there.

A China-Russia consortium is building an e-commerce hub, a logistics centre and hotels in Moscow.

Since the Russia-Ukraine war began more than three years ago, American companies have left Russia in droves. A local consortium took over this fast food chain, retaining the style of the decor and menu of the chain's former operator, McDonald's.

In this shopping mall, American brands have virtually disappeared. Starbucks has been replaced by Stars Coffee, while Chinese smartphones and TVs dominate electronics stores. Only parallel iPhone imports remain available.

The Sadovod Market is about 30 minutes' drive from central Moscow. Also known as the Chinese Market, it spans 600,000 square metres and is the largest retail and wholesale market in Eurasia.

With an average of 250,000 visitors daily, around 90 percent of the goods sold are Chinese-made, and about 1,000 Chinese nationals operate the stalls here.

One of them, a plastic flower vendor from Jilin Province, came to Russia 20 years ago. She said there is no suppression or pressure doing business here, and people respect each other so they can do business together.

Some locals said they like Chinese products but still hope for an early end to the war and the return of more international brands for a greater variety of products.

"There are actually a lot of products from China which I bought today, they were like good and they were very cheap, so that's good to buy, they are even cheaper if you buy them online, I hope some time later, companies which quit Russia after the start of the so-called military operation will return back".

A China-Russia consortium is investing 200 million dollars in the development of a commercial complex in Moscow. The project includes an e-commerce hub, logistics warehouses and hotels.

The three newly completed buildings are set to open in July, aiming to be Moscow's new Chinatown. The project leader believes there will be significant collaborative opportunities between China and Russia.

China remains Russia's top trading partner, with bilateral trade reaching 240 billion U.S. dollars last year, and the figure is projected to exceed 300 billion this year.
