Starting June 3rd, Hong Kong will trim the quarantine period for cats and dogs taken in from mainland China from 120 days to 30 days, provided that they meet specific health requirements.
They include microchipping, valid rabies and other disease vaccinations before departure and an animal health certificate issued by an official mainland veterinarian.
The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department will increase quarantine facilities, expanding cat units from 21 to 34 and dog units from 20 to 30.
The AFCD is also encouraging private animal welfare organisations to provide additional quarantine facilities to minimise waiting times.
