A six-year-old girl is in stable condition after suspected mushroom poisoning.
She reportedly consumed wild mushrooms picked by her family. About three hours later, she developed abdominal pain, started vomiting and was rushed to the A&E Department at Princess Margaret Hospital. She remains under observation.
The Centre for Health Protection reminds the public never to consume wild mushrooms because it's difficult to tell edible and toxic types apart.
Food poisoning from wild fungi is usually acute with symptoms including nausea, vomiting and stomach pain.
Depending on the mushroom species, hallucinations, excessive sweating and neurological effects may occur. In severe cases, it can be fatal.
Officials urge anyone with suspected mushroom poisoning to seek immediate medical help and bring along any leftover mushrooms for identification.
