A recent study has found that children and teenagers from underprivileged families in Hong Kong report significantly lower quality of life, compared with their peers.

Commissioned by the Society for Community Organization and conducted by the social work department of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the survey polled nearly 600 youths aged 5 to 20.

Those living in subdivided flats or newly migrated families scored notably lower in physical health and access to financial resources.

The group is urging the government to step up mental health support and create a more inclusive environment for disadvantaged youth.
