For the first time, the Hong Kong Jockey Club rolled out two special experience packages tailored for international visitors on a major race day.
The bundle combines the thrill of horse racing with an opportunity for international business networking for some high-spending tourists.
The Champions Race Day was held at Sha Tin Racecourse from noon on Sunday. To attract more international visitors, the Jockey Club has rolled out two experience packages. Nearly 100 packages were sold.
The elite package is priced at 4,500 dollars. Buyers can watch the action from spectator stands at the club's high-end restaurant inclusive of breakfast and buffet, and a whiskey-tasting session.
16 senior executives of Australian enterprises were among the first to purchase the exclusive packages.
ROB BLENKINSHIP, CEO, CGH Group: "With like-minded people that we have here today, it's just incredible. They're all very, very successful in their own right, and employing many, many thousands of people in Australia collectively. So yes, we'd like to obviously try to find international business opportunities."
JOEL WEIER, Australian Tourist: "Lots of things to do and lots of things to be entertained with. And the people are very friendly."
JAMES FRANKENFELD, Australian Tourist: "We spared no expense. We've had the best experience. We got picked up from our hotel rooms. We then got brought to the races. We've had just the best experience in Hong Kong. You'd like to come back again and the standard of the racing in Hong Kong, as Joel said too, is second to none. It's as good as you have overseas."
GRANT MORGAN, Manager Director, Australian OnTrack Racing Tours: "Australians, we'd like to eat well and drink well. I think in terms of Australian dollars, I think per person, over the six days, I would estimate more than probably 12,000 Australian dollars, so it's a fairly significant amount of money."
Elite package buyers will also receive a limited edition pony plush doll signed by prominent jockey Zac Purton, as well as commemorative clothing.
Mr Morgan said in the future he will continue to organise groups to attend other horse racing events in Hong Kong.
The Club is also offering a 200-dollar package for less experienced racegoers and individual visitors from abroad. They will be given a guided tour of the racecourse facilities and Hong Kong's racing culture.
