The court sentences a man to five years and four months in prison for attempting to murdering his wife and his three children after falling 900,000 dollars in debt because of a failed business venture.
In June 2024, the defendant laced his family's dinner with sedatives before burning charcoal inside the home. He later decided against those actions and extinguished the flames.
The now 45-year-old defendant had pleaded guilty to the four counts of attempted murder in the High Court, while Judge Yau Tak-hong notes that the defendant was suffering from depression and described the incident as a tragedy.
His wife and children have reportedly forgiven him.
