2026 is just a few hours away. Although there will be no New Year's Eve fireworks display, countdown events will be held in many places, and legendary Australian band Air Supply will perform in Central later tonight.

In the Chater Road pedestrian zone in Central, Air Supply arrived in the afternoon to prepare, attracting many fans.

With the fireworks cancelled, the city's main event to welcome 2026 is the Hong Kong WinterFest in Central.

Eight landmark buildings, including the Court of Final Appeal building and Hong Kong Club will host a "Immersive Light Show," featuring giant countdown clocks and light and shadow images.

A three-minute light and shadow show will showcase "New Hope, New Beginning."

Mr Cheung said he will come to Central to listen to Air Supply.

Many tourists came to Hong Kong for New Year's Eve, but some were surprised that the fireworks are cancelled.

A Thai tourist said: "Oh, we didn't know. Yeah, it's okay. Because we can spend some good time here in Hong Kong and like wander around trying some food here."

Across the harbour, the West Kowloon Cultural District will host a New Year's Eve countdown concert.

The M+ Museum and the International Commerce Centre, the tallest building in Hong Kong, will also participate in the countdown.

Giant countdown clocks will be displayed on Cultural Centre in Tsim Sha Tsui and the Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wanchai.

Still, the absence of fireworks has affected some waterfront businesses.

This restaurant, located on the Wanchai waterfront, faced many booking cancellations. The manager said in previous years, the restaurant was fully booked thanks to the fireworks.

Meanwhile, Lan Kwai Fong bars are offering discounts and prize-winning activities to attract more business.

In the afternoon, some tourists have already arrived there. Businesses are organizing countdown events, and the police have set up barricades early to control the flow of people.

Many restaurants are offering special countdown set meals and other special deals.

A spokesperson for Lan Kwai Fong Association said the Hong Kong Tourism Board's events in Central is helping businesses in the area.

She said considering the recent social atmosphere in Hong Kong and the economic situation, pricing is even more heavily discounted than before the pandemic.

She expects business volume will increase 5 to 10 percent compared to last year.

On new year's eve, the atmosphere in Lan Kwai Fong is lively and cheerful. Both locals and tourists have been joyfully enjoying food and drinks. It's a vibrant scene filled with excitement and glee.
