Chief Executive John Lee congratulated the newly elected Legislative Council members. He said he hopes to work with the eighth Legislative Council members to advance post-fire support and reconstruction efforts. In a statement, Lee said that at a time when Hong Kong society is facing common challenges, the successful and timely holding of the Legco election reflects respect for the constitutional order and the rule of law. He thanked every voter for actively exercising their civic rights and responsibilities. He hopes to work with the new Legislative Council members to advance post-disaster support and reconstruction efforts, implement systemic reforms, and make Hong Kong safer and its citizens more secure. Beijing's Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office said the voter turnout in the Legislative Council election significantly exceeded that of the previous election, fully representing the will of the people of Hong Kong. The Office said: "We hope and believe that the new Legislative Council members will be able to properly handle the relationship between the executive and legislative branches, fully support the Chief Executive and the SAR government in governing according to law, promoting in-depth reforms, and comprehensively carrying out disaster relief and recovery work after the Tai Po fire."
