Additional child allowance of $130,000 to be extended

The policy address continues to encourage fertility. Currently, a tax payer may claim an additional tax allowance of 130,000 dollars in the first year of a child's birth.

Together with the original 130,000 dollars, the total child allowance is 260,000 dollars.

From the 2026/2027 fiscal year, the additional child allowance will be extended to two years, allowing a parent to enjoy the double allowance for the first two years of a child's birth.

The policy address also proposes adding 15 subsidised child care centres over the next three years, nearly doubling the current number.
