Alibaba wins injunction against Pentagon contract restrictions

Alibaba group has won a preliminary injunction against the Pentagon contract restrictions linked to a China blacklist. A US federal judge on Monday barred the US government from denying the contracts to companies tied to the e-commerce giant that engage in lobbying activities.

Alibaba sued the American government in June after it was added to a list of businesses that Washington alleges are aiding China's military.

It said in its lawsuit that the determinations have no basis in fact or law, pointing out its products and services are built for retail, logistics and enterprise tecnology, not defence or intelligence.

Other big names on the blacklist include internet search provider Baidu and EV maker BYD.

The measure does not amount to formal sanctions but will restrict Pentagon contracts with listed companies and purchases of their products or services through third parties from 2027.
