The French government pledged 4 billion euros in educational reforms and university places on Monday, attempting to quell weeks of widespread student protests and rioting, but students have complained that they were given "crumbs" compared to what they were asking for.

The French Education Minister, Edouard Geffray, announced that 4 billion euros would be invested to renovate school buildings, alongside 15,000 new university positions and 900 additional teachers.

However, student unions dismissed the concessions as insufficient, arguing the measures fell short of their demands.

"We are asking for 250,000 spots in the universities. We are barely getting 15,000. It's ridiculous." said a high school student.

Representatives vowed to continue their mobilisation, with futher demonstrations and strikes planned for later in the week.
