China firmly opposes certain individuals in the Philippines hyping up
China-related issues and undermining bilateral ties, Chinese foreign
ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on Monday.
The remarks were made at a regular news briefing after the foreign
ministry of the Philippines on the same day summoned China's
ambassador to express its "serious concern and strong objection"
about remarks by Ambassador Jing Quan last week.
Jing said China "may easily win" in a confrontation with the Philippines, but Beijing
would not use force because "we love peace", responding
to a question about the Philippine defence secretary describing
China as a regional troublemaker.
Mao said developing and improving China-Philippines relations is in the
interests of both countries, and urged the Philippine side
to restrain certain politicians irresponsible acts and words.
