Communist Party fifth plenum concludes in Beijing

The 5th Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China concluded on Thursday in Beijing.

Following four days of closed-door meetings, state news agency Xinhua released an official announcement confirming the adoption of a resolution on maintaining strict party governance.

Zhang Shengmin, Vice-Chairman of the Central Military Commission, was elected to the Politburo, while 10 members were promoted to the Central Committee.

The plenum also confirmed decisions to expel 33 officials from the party, including Ma Xingrui, Zhang Youxia, and Liu Zhenli.

Furthermore, the party decided to convene the 21st National Congress in the second half of next year.
