HK hotel booking rate reached 90% during first 3 days of Golden Week

The National Day Golden Week holidays are set to kick off tomorrow, with Hong Kong's hotel sector indicating the hotel booking rate in the city's popular tourist areas have reached 90 percent for the first three days of the break.

But the room prices for the holidays are significantly higher than those offered on normal days.

Hong Kong authorities estimated some 1.29 million mainland tourists will enter the city during the week-long National Day Golden Week holidays.

With just one day remaining until the break, scores of tourists could already be seen on the streets of Tsim Sha Tsui.

Many mainland visitors said they wanted to arrive in the city earlier to avoid the ensuing crowds.

This tourist from Beijing said he spent one day at Disneyland and intends to go shopping in Macao tomorrow, noting that his luxury hotel room last night costs around 500 yuan.

While this visitor from Guangdong said he will stay in the city for just two days, adding that hotel prices are acceptable for such a developed city.

This as hotel prices will noticeably surge on the 1st of October.

According to online hotel booking platforms, a regular four-star hotel room for two guests in urban areas would cost between 5,000 and 6,000 dollars between the 1st and 4th of next month.

In neighbouring Shenzhen, however, hotel rooms of the same quality are only half the price over the course of the same period.

Some in the city's hotel sector said the hotel booking rate in Hong Kong's tourist hotspots during the first three days of the week-long holidays have already reached 90 percent, emphasising that those who choose to stay overnight in the city are looking for special experiences.

Meanwhile, the government and various sectors in the city will roll out a series of special offers celebrating National Day, which will cover public transport, entertainment as well as dining.

At 8 pm tomorrow, revellers will also get to enjoy a National Day-themed fireworks display at Victoria Harbour, during which authorities will implement traffic arrangements with several roads being cordoned off in the area.
