Indonesia marks its 81st Independence Day commemorating

the historic proclamation of freedom issued

August 17, 1945 after Japan's World War II surrender.

Police officers, armed forces and other officials parade through Jakarta on Monday

before an air show of parachutes and a flag-hoisting ceremony begin.

Artists performed outside the presidential palace in the

capital ahead of a flag hoisting ceremony.
