Foreign tourist numbers to Japan fell for 2nd month

Foreign visitors to Japan fell for a second consecutive month in May, as Chinese tourist numbers plunged over 60 percent amid political tensions.

The Japan National Tourism Organization reported 3.56 million visitors, down 3.6% year-on-year.

Chinese visitors dropped 60.4 percent to 313,000 - the sixth monthly decline - following Japanese PM Sanae Takaichi's remarks on Taiwan. The slump has hit Japan's retail and tourism sectors.
