Beijing's Liaison Office in Hong Kong hosted a Spring Festival reception. The office's director Zhou Ji says that in the Chinese New Year, he believes that Hong Kong will be able to adhere to and improve executive leadership.
The reception was held at the Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai.
Zhou Ji, Chief Executive John Lee, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Leung Chun-ying and others attended the event.
In his speech, Zhou Ji reviewed the four major events that "will not be forgotten" last year. They include the visit of aircraft carrier Shandong in Hong Kong, the eighth Legislative Council election being successfully held, the two No. 10 typhoon signals and five black rainstorms, as well as the Tai Po fire.
He says there will be no difficulties that cannot be overcome on the journey of Hong Kong's governance and prosperity, and there will be no peaks that cannot be climbed. He also said that Chief Executive John Lee and the HKSAR government will receive their full support in accordance with the law.
In the new year, Zhou says he believes that Hong Kong will be able to uphold and improve the leadership of the executive with harmonious exchanges between the legislature and the executive branch to enhance the effectiveness of the SAR in accordance with the law.
Chief Executive John Lee meanwhile said that Hong Kong will have four development directions in the coming year, including improving administrative leadership, enhancing governance efficiency, actively turbocharging economic development, continuing to enhance people's livelihood and well-being, and actively integrating into and serving the overall development of the country.
