A Cathay Pacific passenger flight returning to Hong Kong from Kaohsiung was forced to turn back shortly after take-off in the morning, due to a suspected engine lubricating oil leak.

About 200 passengers were affected.

The aircraft involved was an Airbus A321neo, flight number CX449.

According to flight tracking websites, the plane took off at around 8 a.m. but turned back soon after and landed safely at about 9 a.m.

Aviation enthusiasts in Taiwan captured footage showing fire engines following the aircraft after landing.

Taiwanese media reported that insufficient engine pressure was detected after take-off, with the aircraft's systems displaying abnormalities.

No injuries were reported.

Cathay Pacific says it had rebooked affected passengers onto other Cathay Pacific flights departing from Kaohsiung, and provided snacks or meal vouchers.
