A mainland man has been arrested on suspicion of being connected to the robbery of a currency exchange shop in Central involving some 1 billion yen, which is around 50 million Hong Kong dollars.
Sources say some of the stolen cash has been recovered.
The incident took place on Queen's Road Central at around 9 a.m.
The case was reported by two staff members of the shop, who said three men armed with knives robbed the establishment of 1 billion yen before fleeing towards Bonham Strand in a silver seven-seater vehicle.
Police officers found the suspected vehicle on Jervois Street.
Sources said authorities found a man carrying a suitcase containing large amounts of Japanese yen in Sheung Wan MTR Station, before arresting him on suspicion of being connected to the case.
