The 2nd New Territories Inter-District Cross Harbour Swimming Competition was held in the Sha Tau Kok Frontier Closed Area, featuring a human-canine event for the first time.

After officiating guests, including Secretary for Security Chris Tang, sounded the horn, participants plunged into the water together, with around 600 competitors taking part across two categories.

Swimmers competing in the 2-kilometre race set off from Sha Tau Kok Pier, turned around at Kuk Po Pier and returned to the starting point, while the 400-meter participants swam a single loop in the open waters nearby.

One young participant said he especially looking forward to the event because he had never been to the restricted area before. Another swimmer said he can fully enjoyed the nature here, whereas the Victoria Harbour event feels a bit more competitive.

Adding a playful twist, this year's event introduced the "Swim with your Dogs" category for the first time, featuring a total of 17 furry friends. While some "compawtitors" eagerly jumped into the water ahead of their owners, others needed a little extra encouragement to build up their courage.

Competing across a 70-metre course, this pup decided to take a little break by hitching a ride on its owner's back, while others powered through to be the first to cross the finish line. Organisers hope the event will promote the opening of Sha Tau Kok for tourism as well as foster a pet-friendly community.

More upcoming events will be hosted in the area to welcome more visitors in the future.
