The Global Financial Leaders' Investment Summit continued for a second day in Hong Kong. Financial Secretary Paul Chan says Hong Kong will work to make its financial markets more efficient and step up confidence among businesses and investors.

On the summit's second day, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, the Securities and Futures Commission and the Hong Kong Academy of Finance co-hosted the seminar -- "Conversations with Global Investors" with discussions focusing on issues encompassing geopolitics, AI development and global wealth management.

In his keynote address, the finance chief says Hong Kong would set sights on ratcheting up its markets' efficiency with faster approvals, more streamlined processes and clearer frameworks for new products.

Financial Secretary PAUL CHAN: "Hong Kong will continue to widen the choices for financing and allocation so that businesses can find the right capital at every stage of their development and investors can participate in the growth of China and Asia across different asset classes and markets."

Kelvin Wong, Chairman of the Securities and Futures Commission, meanwhile, underscored how global investors should take note of the diverse opportunities emerging from the economic transformation taking place across Asia.

Chairman, Securities and Futures Commission KELVIN WONG: "The next great opportunity may not be found where capital is already comfortable. It may be found where change is the greatest, and understanding has gaps to catch up. And increasingly, I believe extraordinary opportunities are being written now here in Asia."

Multinational asset management company Schroders and private equity firm Huaping say despite the various risks in the market, investors remain optimistic in these sectors.

CEO, Schroders RICHARD OLDFIELD: "Actually, if you look at the underlying data, by the way, particularly in the US, earnings for the corporate sector outside of technology have remained really robust and we've seen good growth. Now, that hasn't come through in equity price appreciation because all the money through a gravitational pull effect of momentum went into the tech sector. So we should be quite optimistic. We're still quite positive of equities, but you need to be selective. And investing and allowing momentum to take your investment decisions is actually I think where we've got difficulty and it's now time to think about fundamental portfolio building."

CEO, Huaping Investment JEFFREY PERLMAN: "Just think 5% to 7% of capital flows being reallocated to Asia and even in particular a market like China is significant. And as growth and buyout investors, China has a very powerful thing right now, which is very low cost of leverage. And that debt has continued to come down in cost. I think China is going to continue to take the playbook from Japan in terms of trying to bring kind of a deflationary approach to it. And that is very healthy for buyouts."

The Hong Kong government reveals that next year's summit will run for three days in early November.
