Super Typhoon Champi is barrelling towards Okinawa in Japan, prompting the cancellation of over 200 flights with more than 18,000 travellers affected.
Japan's meteorological agency recorded maximum sustained winds near the centre of Champi at around 200 kilometres per hour -- meaning wind forces are strong enough to topple some houses.
Regions such as Kyushu and western Japan are expected to experience heavy downpours, which will likely last through the weekend. Airlines in the city have cancelled several flights to and from Taiwan and Japan, with more expected later in the week.
Affected Hong Kong Express passengers can reschedule for free or apply for a full refund.
