Second MTR incident in two days

Equipment emitted smoke on the platform at MTR Lam Tin Station. During the morning peak hours, Kwun Tong Line trains skipped Lam Tin Station for about an hour. Train services gradually returned to normal around 10:00 AM.

Near 9:00 AM, the MTR broadcast an announcement stating that trains would not stop at Lam Tin Station and that the station had to close. The MTR indicated that equipment on the platform was emitting smoke.

A large team of MTR engineering staff entered the train tracks to conduct an inspection. Firefighters were also on scene to handle the situation.

The MTR evacuated passengers inside the station through the turnstiles. During the incident, the MTR arranged free feeder buses running between Kwun Tong and Yau Tong stations.

Outside the station along Lei Yue Mun Road, multiple fire engines and ambulances were parked.

Because Lam Tin Station was temporarily closed, some commuters arrived only to find themselves turned away at the closed doors.

At around 10:00 AM, the MTR stated that the situation at Lam Tin Station had been resolved, and Kwun Tong Line train services gradually resumed normal operations.
