Hot now but cyclone signal No.1 to be issued tonight

Tropical Cyclone Noul will enter within 800 kilometres of Hong Kong around this evening (24 July). The Observatory will issue the Standby Signal, No. 1 at 8:40 p.m. tonight.

The weather will still be very hot over Hong Kong during the day tomorrow (25 July). However, there will be swells. Members of the public are advised to stay away from the shoreline and not to engage in water sports. With Noul intensifying and edging closer to the coast of eastern Guangdong, local winds will strengthen gradually later tomorrow. There will be more squally showers. Depending on the change in intensity of Noul, the distance of its strong winds from Hong Kong and the local wind conditions, the Observatory will consider issuing higher tropical cyclone warning signals tomorrow afternoon.

According to the present assessment, Noul has a higher chance to make landfall over the vicinity of Huizhou to Jieyang at first on Sunday (26 July), but there are still uncertainties in its distance from Hong Kong. Under the influence of Noul, it will be windy with heavy squally showers and thunderstorms on Sunday. Seas will be rough.
