At least 1 firm from Kazakhstan will seek listing in HK: Frederick Ma

Hong Kong Trade Development Council Chairman Frederick Ma, who is part of the delegation in Chief Executive John Lee’s Central Asian trip, revealed that at least one company under the Kazakh sovereign wealth fund will list in Hong Kong this year.

Ma said: “In the sovereign fund seminar, it was said that at least one of their companies will list in Hong Kong this year, because many sectors in Kazakhstan are state-controlled, including oil, telecommunications, and mining.”

“After privatization, he choose to list in Hong Kong because he saw the success of Hong Kong listings and the fact that the Hong Kong capital market could provide him with financing. Therefore, they have a strong need to come to Hong Kong.”

The Hong Kong Trade Development Council has commissioned consultants to establish an office in Kazakhstan to assist Hong Kong businesses in expanding their business opportunities in Central Asia. Ma said he does not rule out establishing a long-term overseas office in the future.
