The government held a consultation meeting to collect opinions from the tertiary education sector on formulating Hong Kong's first five-year plan.

Chief Executive John Lee, who attended the meeting, said after the meeting that public consultation for the upcoming Policy Address will be launched next Monday, adding that the Policy Address will respond to the direction of Hong Kong's five-year plan.

Lee said: “The Hong Kong Five-Year Plan and the Chief Executive's Policy Address are policy documents from the same origin. The Five-Year Plan is a forward-looking, strategic, and directional guidance document that sets a clear direction for economic and social development in the next five years. The Policy Address is an annual policy plan, responding to the requirements and directions of the Five-Year Plan.”

This morning, representatives from local universities went to the government headquarters to express their opinions on the Five-Year Plan.

Those present included Tim Lui, Chairman of the University Grants Committee.

Lui said the meeting mentioned the planning of the Northern Metropolis University Town, international tertiary education hub, and that the integrated development of educational science and technology talents will be the focus of the next five years.
