US President Donald Trump says he has offered the job of White House press secretary to his friend and Ultimate Fighting Championship CEO Dana White. White says he plans to meet with Trump on Monday at the White House.

Speaking from London at a boxing event Saturday, Dana White confirmed he planned to immediately fly to Washington and meet US President Donald Trump after he was offered the job of White House press secretary.

"I'm flying to Washington DC right now."

"Yeah, right now."

"Can you tell us a bit about some of the conversations that you've had with him(Trump) about that?'

"No. I'm going to meet with him. We have a meeting on Monday, so I'm sure we'll have more to talk about after that."

US President Donald Trump, while at his golf club in Florida, posted on social media that he made the offer to "the Great Dana White, a violent Fighter and Warrior" to become the Republican president's chief spokesperson.

Trump said he requested White bring along several UFC fighters as assistants, adding "We need these people to defend us against the Lunatic Left. Dana will be a Press Secretary like none other, Dana please take the job."

The White House did not respond Saturday to messages inquiring about the Truth Social Post.

Trump's offer comes as his White House is in a period of major transition and struggling with his party's deep losses in Tuesday's midterm elections.

The historic wins by Democratic candidates, including in areas that Republicans had held for decades, led to the GOP losing control of both chambers and Congress.
