Meeting the press today, Beijing's senior officials elaborated on the guiding principles from the Fifth Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee. The plenum, which concluded on Thursday in Beijing, adopted the resolution on "Certain Major Issues concerning Persevering with Full and Rigorous Party Self-Governance" to follow a "distinctive Chinese path to combating corruption."
They include cracking down on four woes: unnecessary formalities, bureaucratism, hedonism and extravagance -- refusing to "use" those who are "lazy and ineffective" and those who feign compliance while opposing and abuse power for personal gain. Since the 18th National Congress of the CPC, discipline inspection and supervisory authorities across the country have filed more than 8.1 million cases and punished 7.922 million people, including 963 officials "registered at and supervised by" the CPC Central Committee.
The plenum also formally ratified the expulsion of 33 officials from the party, including former Politburo members Ma Xingrui and Zhang Youxia, as well as Liu Zhenli.
