Xinhua News Agency reported former Premier Zhu Rongji died in Beijing after unsuccessful treatment for a disease at the age of 98.

Xinhua News Agency released the portrait of Zhu.

The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and the State Council all issued obituaries, describing Zhu as an outstanding party member and leader.

It said he dared to speak the truth and made every effort to make practical contributions for the people.

The obituaries also noted after Zhu Rongji became Premier, amid the Asian financial crisis, he introduced active fiscal and prudent monetary policies, while maintaining stable and rapid economic growth for the country and ensuring the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong with its role as an international financial centre.
