US President Donald Trump said he told his administration to file a lawsuit to block certification of the US Senate race in Alaska if Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan loses,

kicking off what many fear could become a lengthy battle between the government and states over certifying an election where the president's party is struggling.

The lawsuit centres on one of the president's longstanding complaints in the Senate race - the presence of a second candidate named Dan Sullivan who Republicans fear could siphon away votes from the incumbent in what's

likely to be a photo-finish contest with Democrat Mary Peltola, the state's former congresswoman.

US President Donald Trump answers "Just get out and vote. If they vote, we're going to win big."

(Reporter) Any thoughts on the Alaska losses?

"Well, I'm the I'm the one that said do it. They have two guys, Ron, named Dan Sullivan running. So the Democrats put up a guy, never, I don't think he ever voted before.

All of a sudden, he decides to run for the Senate. And his name is Dan Sullivan. One is Daniel S, one is Daniel J. The Daniel J is the fake and he wants to change

his middle initial to Daniel S."

Florida Governor, Republican Ron Desantis says "And Daniel J just so happens to be funded by liberal donors. So imagine that. What a coincidence."

Alaskan voters voiced concern over what they see as increasingly contentious tactics in the state's closely watched US Senate race.

Alaska voter Nicole Gregory says "I feel like the two Dan Sullivan's isn't really confusing. I feel it's a tactic that they're trying to make it so that they can do this lawsuit,

so that they can kind of create an uproar and try to make it seem like we're attacking the Dan Sullivan that's already in Senate. And, in all reality, anybody's allowed to run for government."

This as California Governor Gavin Newsom and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi rallied Democrats in San Francisco on Friday, blasting President Trump and urging supporters to help flip five

US House seats to give Democrats a majority.

California Governor Gavin Newson says "Election day ends on November 3 and Donald Trump's presidency as we know it, ends on November 3, as long as we do our jobas long as we do our job.

Up there in Alaska, this just happened a few hours ago. They said they will not certify the outcome of the election in the United States Senate race unless their Republican candidate wins.

They're putting us back to a pre-1960s world, putting America in reverse. Women's rights, LGBTQ rights, civil rights, voting rights, rights regression. These guys are ruthless.

It is all on the line this November."
