Sources say the newly redeveloped Huanggang Port will commence operations as early as next Monday.
Starting today, residents can register for the port's self-service and facial recognition cross-border services.
Under the new "collaborative inspection" method adopted by the newly upgraded Huanggang Port, residents simply have to display their identification documents once for the entire process.
The border-crossing duration has also been shortened to around five minutes.
But those who wish to make use of this efficient procedure must complete the relevant registration beforehand.
The Immigration Department has upgraded its e-Channel system, which now permits registrations for collaborative inspection and facial recognition border-crossings all in one go via the iAM Smart platform.
The entire process could be completed within one minute.
Parents can also register on their children's behalf.
This as authorities reminded residents that only those aged 7 or above can use the automated clearance system, while facial recognition services pertain to those aged 14 or above.
However, physical registrations for the e-Channel are also available at the port building's 4th and 5th floors.
There, residents can scan relevant documents and fingerprints at self-service kiosks which will grant them access to the e-Channel.
Immigration Department personnel will be on site to assist those in need.
Meanwhile, 30 manned-kiosks are also available for those who prefer not to use the automated clearance system.
Regarding motorists crossing the border, "five-in-one" joint inspection lanes in the port area allow for five agencies to collect the necessary data from vehicles.
Passengers, on the other hand, are required to leave their vehicles and complete the immigration procedure on the port building's L1M and L3M levels.
